參加投行Networking可以獲得fast track面試機會?


【去networking活動有機會fast track你份application?】同學去報投行嘅時候,除咗見到唔同實習或Placement嘅Openings外,一定會留意到好多投行仲舉辦緊唔同嘅networking events!同學又有冇諗過呢類型活動可以俾到你機會,同各大投行HR或者MD親身接觸?如果同學可以喺活動期間令到對方對你留下深刻印象,分分鐘可以直接fast track你份application,咁就可以比其他人快一步得到面試機會!但係到底實質地要點做先可以表現得令人眼前一亮?今次 IBankCoaching 就整合咗:

【Networking前準備功夫】

▶️1-2分鐘自我介紹:千祈唔好睇小呢2分鐘嘅自我介紹,試想像同學喺不同networking events都要向不同崗位嘅人自我介紹;而呢2分鐘就會成為對方對你嘅第一印象!所以為免同學太緊張,然後口窒窒,去events之前,當然要準備一份強而有力嘅自我介紹,然後喺屋企就要對住塊鏡不斷練習說話速度、咬字及表情管理。只要同學肯不斷練習,IBankCoaching相信同學去任何相關events都會信心滿滿;開咗個靚頭之後,自然可以同industry expert打開話匣子!

【Networking要顯示咩素質?期間要講咩内容?】

▶️其實任何events最重要都係要展示自己係一個聰明、識大體同埋有強勁社交能力嘅人。一般而言,IBankCoaching都唔建議同學一開始講太多technical相關嘅知識,要知道投行MD經驗一定比你豐富,講太多就變咗好似拋書包,俾人感覺就會好似show off,咁就唔太好!

▶️相反,同學可以講吓旅遊、飲食、文化、音樂等,呢種比較中性嘅話題會較容易產生共鳴,令到成個對話可以更加流暢,唔會dead air🤪另外,如果對方係MD級嘅話,不妨問吓對方對市場嘅睇法,你亦都可以講吓自己嘅諗法,咁就可以喺對方身上學到嘢!相反,如果係HR嘅話,就可以問吓大多數現職員工有咩共通性格特質,咁你就大概有個idea間公司傾向請咩類型嘅人。

講到底,最重要都係要知道event會遇到咩部門嘅人,從而諗吓有咩相關問題可以問佢哋先展示到自己對公司嘅熱情!

【Networking有咩地雷要避開?】

講完要做嘅嘢,當然都要提醒同學有咩地雷一定唔好踩!💣

第一個大忌就係談及一啲比較敏感嘅話題,例如:宗教、政治等。呢啲話題容易引起分歧、爭執同埋不必要嘅衝突💥 因為始終你唔清楚對方有咩宗教信仰、政治立場或價值觀,所以為咗避免討論呢啲話題會引起情緒上嘅對立,最好當然就係講少錯少。呢個時候同學就會問,「如果對方想繼續傾呢啲敏感話題嘅話,咁可以點做?」其實最重要都係尊重對方嘅意願,同埋保持開放嘅態度,當然同一時間都要慎言,咁先可以避免不必要嘅衝突

第二個大忌就係千祈唔好直接問對方拎offer:同學緊記networking嘅目的係同行業professionals建立良好網絡,就算同學有幾心急想要offer都好,都千祈千祈千祈唔好喺networking期間直接問對方拎offer🙈咁樣做會令到對方覺得好大壓力同埋過份aggressive,結果只會得不償失。

【對住不同行業professionals,適合問咩問題?】

講咗咁耐,到底networking期間要問咩問題先叫做適合?以下就係其中4個areas俾同學參考吓,分別係Investment Banking, Hedge Fund, Private Equity, Venture Capital:

⭕️Investment Banking

How would you best position yourself for group placement considering a lot of places have done away with sell days? Would you have done anything differently?

⭕️Hedge Fund

What advice can you provide for someone who wants to move from an S&T macro product role into an HF (preferably global macro)?

.

⭕️Private Equity

You mentioned people going to HFs and smaller shops after their two years. Do you feel like it’s a natural transition from private equity to liquid markets?

⭕️Venture Capital

What type of deal experience would you say is most valued? M&A or just plain vanilla capital raising?

.
